About The Division of Safety and Fire Engineering.

The B.Tech. programme in Safety and Fire Engineering, when started in the year 1996 at Cochin University of Science and Technology, was the first of its kind in the country and has gained wide acceptance across the globe in the industry, academia and government services.

The B. Tech degree programme was started with an annual intake of 30 and later, in 2012, it was increased to 60. In the year 2014, the Division started M.Tech. programme in Industrial Safety with specialization in HSE management.

Apart from the UG and PG programmes, the Division offers Ph. D. programmes in the frontier areas of safety and fire engineering as well. There are four approved research guides in the Division and the award of research projects funded by several organizations like DST, KSCSTE, AICTE, etc. is a proof of the research potential of the Division. The Division has so far produced 29 Ph.Ds; published 160 papers in international/national journals and conferences; and more than 30 research scholars are at different stages of their research works.

The Division is also active in providing consultancy services in the areas of safety auditing, risk assessment, structural scrutiny of buildings, strength assessment of fire damaged buildings, ergonomics, environmental impact assessment, etc.. Above 90% of our graduates are placed in reputed companies through campus recruitment. Our alumni are working in reputed organizations in India and abroad- DRDO, ISRO, IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, BPCL, Reliance Petroleum, British Safety Council, American Bureau of Shipping(ABS), USA Environmental department, Cummins, etc. , to name a few.
