Principal’s Message

The School of Engineering (SOE) at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) began its journey in 1978 with a modest start, offering a few postgraduate and Ph.D. programs in Engineering. Today, it has grown into the largest academic unit of CUSAT, with over 3,000 students, firmly establishing itself as a premier centre for engineering education and research. CUSAT, a State Government University, was accredited with an A+ grade by NAAC in October 2022.

The school began offering B.Tech programs in five different fields in 1995: information technology, computer science and engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and electronics and communication engineering. A B.Tech program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering was added in 2003, and a B.Tech degree in Safety and Fire Engineering was first offered in 1996. In order to best serve all stakeholders, the school's seven departments currently offer seven undergraduate programs, ten graduate programs, and a PhD in the majority of engineering subjects. Through its research and consulting operations, the school has completed projects totalling over 300 lakh rupees. During Phases II and III of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), the school upgraded its research and other facilities and received Rs. 17 core.

By encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, sports, games, yoga, and cultural events, SOE actively cultivates a lively campus culture. Proactive organisations like the Anti-Ragging Committee, Anti-Narcotic Club, and Grievance Redressal Cell serve the goal of student welfare. With over 75% of students from the 2024–25 batch landing jobs with competitive benefits, campus placements have been outstanding. According to a national AMCAT survey, our students outperformed all other TEQIP-funded universities in India.

A national entrance exam called the CUSAT Common Admission Test (CAT) is used to admit students to undergraduate programs. Additionally, hiring faculty is done nationwide, creating a diverse and inclusive school community with representation from both India and elsewhere
